Live means open to participants, on any part of a calendar day (UTC). Every paid study is billed for at least 7 study-days over its life. Prices in US dollars, excluding VAT.

- A study-day
- is any calendar day, in UTC, on which the study was open to participants for any part of the day.
- The minimum
- is 7 study-days per study, over its whole life. Pausing doesn't reset it. Most short studies fill inside a week, so the minimum is a fixed price you can quote.
- Pausing
- is free. A paused study is closed to participants and isn't billed.
- A mixed study
- pays its highest day rate. A Figma test with a SUS and an IAT in it costs the Figma test's rate, and nothing more.
- Allowances
- are prorated by the day: a 10-day moderated study includes 14.3 session-hours.
- Diary studies
- are priced by the participants active that day: $20 up to 30, $35 up to 75, $60 up to 150, then $0.40 for each participant above 150.
- The first 30 study-days
- are free, on any method, with no card. Free days carry no minimum.
Nobody is billed as a person.
Unlimited researchers, viewers and client guests. No participant fees.
Participants are people you invite: your customers, a client's users, or a panel such as Prolific that you pay directly.

Questions
Can we pay by invoice and bank transfer?
- Yes. You get one invoice a month, in arrears, payable by card or bank transfer. Each workspace has its own usage statement as a PDF and a CSV, so an agency can attach the right page to each client's invoice without rebuilding it.
Do your prices include VAT?
- No. Prices are in US dollars and exclude VAT. UK customers pay UK VAT on top. Business buyers outside the UK with a VAT number are reverse-charged, so no VAT is added. Otherwise VAT is added at the rate that applies and shown on the invoice.
How do we cancel?
- Close your studies and stop. There's no contract and nothing to give notice on: a month with no study live costs $0, so an organisation you've stopped using bills nothing. To delete the organisation and everything in it, do it from settings or email us.
Can we get a refund?
- Yes, on prepaid study-days you haven't used, if you ask within 14 days. Email [email protected] with the invoice number and the refund goes back to the card or account that paid. The full policy is on the refunds page.
What happens when we go over an allowance?
- The study keeps running. Recorded sessions beyond 40 a study-week cost $1.50 each, and moderated time beyond 10 session-hours costs $4 an hour, by the minute. You get a warning at 80%, and the study's cost line shows overage as it happens.
What if we forget to close a study?
Every study launches with a close date and can close itself at a response target. If a live study has had no new responses for 3 days, its owner gets an email with Close and Pause links. A tree test left open for a month would be $90.
Sample studyClosing states the final cost before you confirm. Can we export everything and leave?
- Yes, whenever you like. Responses export as CSV, XLSX and SPSS, recordings and transcripts as files, and a whole workspace as one archive. Nothing is held back to keep you, and there's no annual contract to wait out.
What happens when prices change?
- Every price list is published here with its version and date, and changes are announced in the changelog. The terms give at least 30 days' notice by email, and a study that's live when a change lands keeps the day rate it launched at until it closes.
What does the free start include?
- 30 study-days on any method, with the normal allowances and no card. A diary runs at the 30-participant rate while it's free. Going over an allowance needs a card, so free days can't turn into a surprise bill.
Do you recruit participants?
- No. You invite your own (your customers, a client's users, a recruiter's list) or use a panel such as Prolific through a link, and pay them directly. There's no per-participant fee. If you need people found for you, UserTesting, Maze and Lyssna run panels.
Stroop is the all-in-one research and testing platform.
